This evening includes the premiere of To Burst To Bloom. Commissioned by Vajra Voices, this work is a collection of songs setting the poems of 12th Century Taoist Immortal Sun Bu'er. Drawing on these ancient texts on inner alchemy, the songs explore the fluid interplay of abstract vocal utterances with language and meaning. The piece is made possible by a grant from the San Francisco Early Music Society and the California Arts Council.
