Wong and Fullman will share their processes for generating sounds and structures and talk about how they collaborate. They will demonstrate the way invention and design play a large role in their approach, including: all about the Long String Instrument, cello and electric guitar scordatura, extended harmonics, extended techniques, and using zip ties for guitar frets. They will demonstrate the digital tools that they use that make it possible to audition alternative tunings including: using TouchOSC for the iPad to make a Partch Diamond or tuning lattice, Pianoteq, Dorico with HEJI accidentals and a natural intervals harmonizer for Ableton. Wong and Fullman will show graphic charts that they have each designed to clarify the mechanical principles of string harmonics. The workshop will be conducted in an informal and interactive manner reflecting the interests of participants.
