Join us at Shapeshifters Cinema in Oakland, CA to experience Thingamajigs’ curated live performances, video narratives, poetry readings around redlining in the East Bay. Artists include, Sudhu Tewari, Theresa Wong, Katy Luo, Ayodele Nzinga, Suki O’Kane, Gabby Wen, Maxi Himpe and Hallie Smith.

I’ll be screening “Flatlands”, a short film about the effects of redlining in West Berkeley in the 1930’s and the discrimination faced by Chinese residents of that neighborhood going back to the 1800’s. I’ll be joined for a discussion with historian Richard Schwartz after the screening to discuss the history of Chinese laborers in the area.
