The evening begins with a poetry reading by the distinguished poet Jane Hirshfield, who will be reading poems addressing themes of certainty/uncertainty, social justice, the crisis of the biosphere, and the opulence and perplexities of our shared existence. Then, a live performance of "Bitter Banquet," Powerdove's lush, Euripidean song-cycle, composed and performed by Annie Lewandowski (voice/electronics) with improvisers Fred Frith (guitar) and Theresa Wong (cello, voice).

The performers will be staged in a winterscape diorama by Elkhanah Pulitzer and Chad Owens.
